As per reports, metro will add 420 more coaches in its existing trains, now having 1282 coaches, as a result of which its capacity will grow substantially. Additionally, 486 more coaches wil get added when new lines under Phase III, which will add another 110 km of metro line in 2016-17, will get operationalised, further easing the situation.
Commenting on the issue, a DMRC Official told the media, “Presently, DMRC carries 31 lakh passengers a day and by December 2017, this number will rise to 45 lakh.”
“Presently, the time gap between two trains during peak hours was three minutes and reducing it further was not possible. The number of coaches can be increased and DMRC is constantly doing that,” he added.
