Sensex up 133 points; Nifty reclaims 8000

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade firm during the late noon trading session led by gains in frontline blue chip stocks.

At 14:16 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 26112.79 up by 133.19 points or by 0.51 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8005.7 up by 26.6 points or by 0.33 per cent.

Sentiments got some support after NITI Ayog vice-chairman Aravind Panagariya termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation scheme as a “frontal attack” on black money and said that more such actions are in store to curb corruption. Meanwhile, GST hopes brightened somewhat after both states and the Centre cleared the modest GST law amid indications that the Centre is willing to look at some of the measures to help states tide over the temporary disruption post demonetization.

The Sensex touched intraday high of 26143.19 and intraday low of 25872.38 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8022.6 and intraday low of 7942.05.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 627.95,+3.08%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2624.00,+2.24%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1006.50,+2.16%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5166.00,+1.61%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 881.70,+1.40%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 440.20,-1.84%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 465.00,-0.99%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1172.15,-0.93%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 556.25,-0.71%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 225.70,-0.68%), among others.

Among the sector, In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 10918.78 up by 107.37 points or by 0.99%. Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 314.90,+1.60%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 454.00,+1.54%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 142.80,+1.38%), Nilkamal Ltd. (Rs. 1285.20,+1.25%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 386.80,+0.81%),. On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1276.36 down by -6.84 points or by -0.53%. Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 4.09,-1.45%), D B Realty Ltd. (Rs. 37.60,-1.05%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 304.00,-0.93%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 375.00,-0.89%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 114.45,-0.74%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2645 , shares advanced were 1468 while 1013 shares declined and 164 were unchanged.
