The key domestic benchmark indices continued to hover in red during the late noon trading session amid selling in frontline blue chip stocks such as Bajaj Auto, SBI and ICICI Bank among other.
At 14:21 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 26288.27 down by 86.43 points or by 0.33 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8072.2 down by 32.15 points or by 0.4 per cent.
Sentiments remained down-beat after global financial services major Nomura revised upwards India’s current account deficit (CAD) forecast to 1.4 per cent of GDP for the current fiscal from 0.4 per cent earlier. According to Nomura, India’s trade deficit widened to a 16-month high of USD 13 billion in November from USD 10.4 billion in October, as a result of a sharp slowdown in exports after demonetization and a pickup in imports, led by gold and higher commodity prices.
In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 26435.56 and an intraday low of 26241.43, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8124.1 and an intraday low of 8062.75.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2326.25,+1.69%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 162.30,+1.28%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 229.75,+1.17%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 429.50,+1.11%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 290.65,+1.03%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 254.00,-2.83%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2581.20,-2.46%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 251.10,-2.37%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 270.60,-2.10%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 403.25,-1.89%), among others.
Among the sectors, BSETECk index was at 5457.52 up by 34.09 points or by 0.63%. Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 495.75,+2.12%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2326.25,+1.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 478.70,+1.09%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 445.15,+1.04%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1010.55,+0.83%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2727 , shares advanced were 788 while 1801 shares declined and 138 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian peers ended the day on a mixed note, while European counters were also trading mixed.
