Post Session: Sensex ends 30 pts lower in lacklustre trade; Nifty settles below 8,150

The Indian equities ended flat with negative bias in range-bound session of trade on Friday as nervousness gripped investors after the US Federal Reserve’s crucial interest rate decision. Persistent fund outflows by foreign investors and uncertainty about near term economic outlook following demonetization also weighed on sentiment.

The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 26489.56, down by 29.51 points or by 0.11 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8139.45, down by 14.15 points or by 0.17 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26594.55 and intraday low of 26455.21, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8178.7 and intraday low of 8127.45.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 309.95,-2.67%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 201.70,-2.30%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 255.60,-1.82%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 280.10,-1.56%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 226.55,-1.41%), among others.

On the flip side, Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 472.50,+1.95%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 569.00,+1.32%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1005.00,+1.18%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2281.75,+0.98%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5183.75,+0.62%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and oil&gas stocks emerged as top losers, falling as much as 1.58 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2923, shares advanced were 1183 while 1565 shares declined and 175 were unchanged.
